AMY ANNELLE is a modern-day songwriter whose work balances imagination with a reverence for America's restless, divergent musical past. She's been recording and touring for over a decade, crafting "richly textured, exotic song-worlds that often bear little resemblance to standard voice-and-guitar folk songs" (Billboard). Through many seasons, across many miles, Annelle has cultivated a rarefied voice and a repertoire that "blooms with open-hearted, lustful vulnerability and a harrowing naturalistic solitude" (Crawdaddy). "The Cimarron Banks" is Annelle's seventh album; it was written up on the Oklahoma Panhandle's feral badlands and recorded in her adopted hometown of Austin, Texas.
In addition to her own work, Annelle has sung with Michael Hurley, Bill Callahan, Jandek and indie band Okkervil River; she has been billed with notable modern folk artists Roy Harper, Jolie Holland, and Colin Meloy. The new year finds Annelle teaming up with Austin's best and brightest, performing live as Amy Annelle & the True Vine. The ensemble features percussionist Nick Hennies (Weird Weeds), bassist Lindsey Verrill (Some Say Leland, Dana Falconberry) and multi-instrumentalist Roy Coon (Wino Vino, Minor Mishap Marching Band).

"Annelle possesses the rare instinct for remaining true to roots music while taking it into a different dimension, echoing in the memory long after she’s stopped playing…this is no ordinary folk singer" (Laurie Gallardo, KUT)
"The powerfully affecting songwriter Amy Annelle has quietly put together a body of work that rates with anything you would call 'Americana'…few artists get closer to the ineffable essence of this land of ours in all its great and awful beauty" (Mike Wolf, Timeout NY)
"Like genuine folk singers before, Annelle makes music borne up from the land. Keen, empathetic, they seem to move like ghosts through walls and locked doors and into the homes and lives of men and women they'll never be, yet whose stories are somehow always in part their own--and our own" (Susan Visakowitz, Billboard)
The Cimarron Banks reveals Amy Annelle as a High Plains angel, serenading sagebrush and shadows, while harmonizing with the wind. Her songs are sparse and transcendent. But far from being cloud-bound, Annelle exalts the soil—what grows from it, walks on it, and is built upon it. She also marks the trail of remnants: that which is wilted, forsaken and ghostly"
(Irwin Chusid, WFMU radio)
