AMY ANNELLE (the places): hear

the doubters' army

today's the annivarsary of my return to invalidity, and oh, aren't the doubters proud! my sight was the first to go. how quickly my vision left me, like i'd never seen at all!

next to go was my voice, and in its place: the pitchless tone of an engine note. a whine that sounds from on low. a madman's chatter takes hold.

this was not meant to be, there was beauty all around me 'til the day the doubters claimed me.

at first the invalidity was an awful lonely place to be, 'til i looked around to see: the legions with no vision, the doubters held their arms out, the doubters tore my eyes out and took me as their own!

this was not meant to be, there was beauty all around me, 'til the doubters had their way with me.

so let's mark this anniversary of my return to invalidity with a sumptuous feast: we'll drink wine until the dawn breaks, with colors muted by the blindness. the songs will rest in silence. the song is asleep inside us.
